D-Link Webcam DUC 300
This Webcam can be placed on top of the monitor and has a USB interface. Setting up this camera was quite simple due to the driver software that bundles with it. We tested the device by capturing video at 30 frames per second. Capturing images was quite simple, and you can do so by just clicking a button on the side of the camera. First, we captured video for 15 seconds at 640x480 resolution and 24-bit RGB colour with no compression. Here, it dropped more than 75 per cent of the frames. It, however, gave a better performance when we captured the video at a lower resolution of 160x120 and 12,1420 colours. In this case, it dropped less than 12 per cent of the frames. The picture quality was good, but then there isnÆt much of a difference from the other Webcams available in the market. The captured video quality was better when it was not compressed than when it was compressed. The focus option in the camera allows you to increase the sharpness of the image. The image quality in such cases was good. It bundles the software for video conferencing called Videolink and another software, Omnivision, for capturing video. It has support for various compression codecs but it did not have support for hardware compression.
